Category 4. Ties, Slurs, Beams, and Stems
Segmentation of secondary beams, used to express the relationship of subgroups of notes within a larger beamed group, is a very effective aid to accurate comprehension.
In Ex. #22 we see an unusual subdivision of beamed groups (literally 1/8 + 1/32 + 1/32 + 1/8 + 1/32 + 1/16 + 3/32 but in reduction 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/8 + 3/16). The parameters used to control the beams are shown in the table.
