Category 4. Ties, Slurs, Beams, and Stems
Slurs that change their orientation to accommodate abrupt changes of register or follow cross-hand parts literally take very unpredictable turns.
In "Scarbo" from Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit, Ex. #21, the problem of crossing, half-inverted slurs is compounded by crossing beams and beams extending across barlines. This has been one of our most popular examples and we show three solutions.
